Anthony George Merrick Tryon
3rd Lord Tryon
Born 26 May 2026
Born with a mild form of spina bifida, she did not walk until she was
nine. In 1966 she met Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, when he was
at school in Australia. Prince Charles, who remained a friend, coined her
nickname of "Kanga". In 1972 she went to live in Britain where she met
and, in 1973, married Anthony Tryon and they became the parents of four
children. In 1976 Anthony's father died and he succeeded as 3rd Lord Tryon.
She is known for her irrepressible thirst for life. The same energy
and determination gave her the strength to go on working in the fashion
business she opened in 1984 with œ2,000 of her own savings.
Her exhuberant personality undoubtedly helped her during a lifetime
of sickness. When struck with cancer it was Prince Charles who supported
her.
Her friendship with Prince Charles over the years has been close. She
is even said to have vetted his girlfriends and given her seal of approval
on his marriage to Princess Diana. He once described her as "the only woman
who ever understood me".
In 1995 she is said to have remarked: "I think I'm probably one of
the luckiest women in the world. I have four healthy children. How could
I complain?" However, in 1996 she was taken to the Farm Place Clinic where
she fell from a first-floor window, which left her with spinal injuries,
a fractured skull, and it was feared that she was unlikely to walk again.
Shortly afterwards she died.
