Melody for a Stranger

By Brigitte Gastel written December 8, 2025 in Belleville, Illinois
The opening eyelids of the morning*
        Richly unfolding the dayspring
Morning dew across a field of meadow grass*
        Rocking gently in silence
Yet whispering shyly unspoken words*
Not meant to hear for mankind
Messages sent from the rich soil underneath*
        To the horizon above
The soundless tranquility stirs my body*
And slowly my eyes begin to unveil
To the phenomenon of a brandnew day*
Every second a miracle of the universe

Drowsy and content I reach out
To the man who rests besides me*
        Where he suppose to be
His breathing easy going*
        His face at peace
His mind so at ease*
        His muscles relaxed
Hasteless my fingers begin to caress him*
        Tenderly massaging his skin
Brushing his lips*
        Kissing his fingertips
Still unawakened he gives me a smile*
For me - to keep up for awhile
The joy of loving him*
The whole me absorbing his masculinity
As I move cloe towards his side*
Embracing him in affection, erotic and passion
Head over heels in love with a man*
I really don't know anything about
Becharmed by the way he looks at me*
        Seduced by what I see
In the reflection of his eye*
Bewitched by his contact to my soul

I am the strings to his guitar
Tuned, adjusted and switched around*
        I am his melody - I found
That's why he is needing me*
A happy song, a sentimental song
Whether short or long*
        who is to judge?
Me head buried in his armpit*
My arm gently on his chest
Unspoken words whispered in his ear*
        Can his conscience understand
What my secret message meant? *

I am a lady and a dreamer*
        I am a precious gem
With imaginary treasure to give*
        If he believes
In me*
        I symbolize sunrise and sunset
Old ocean's gray and melancholy waste*
        Don't walk by in haste
Take a good look*
In my eyes - duplicating the deep blue sea
Get drunk by just looking at me*
I am the wave and the tide
With nothing to hide*
Is he able to hear my confession
In his slumber? *

My spritis begin to travel*
        Away from human existence
Into a world of phantasy*
I am a bird in the sky -so free -
Stretching my wings powerful*
        Heading towards isolation
An island - not yet discovered*
        Settling down for exploration
A moment out of my life*
        Forgetting the daily strive
As the dawn changes into sunlight*
        I begin to shiver
Snuggling tighter underneath the cover*
I acknowledge the performance of a new morning
Approaching my open windwow*
        Designing light-golden stripes

I begin to listen to the awakening of nature
Sparkling warmth entering my mind*
        Leaving behind
Impressions of incredible brilliance*
        Electrification within the air
Stimulation wherever I look*
        How come it took
Such a long time to realize*
That love only sharpens your eyes
Love - the beginning and end -*
        Directing our world

My hand is searching for yours - loved one
Can you hear the cheerful noise*
        Can you see
The harmony*
        Spreading over our lifes?
The scent of pleasant flowers*
        Faintly sweeping across our bed
Heavenly creation, golden fire upon me *

And I feel, I see*
A rainbow, beautiful patchwork of nature
Tints of iris, tulips, peacocks*
        Changing like a Chameleon
Blushing and sparkling*
        Not meant to be touched
So far away*
Where does it start, where does it end
Miracle of the firmament*
        Clouds cruising slowly by
Twinkling at me, saying "hi",*
        Birds of the Paradise
Interluding with each other*
        Stopping at the window seal
Singing a special tune - oh how I feel*
        So calm and paralized
Influenced by the situation*
        It's signification

        I wished life would freeze
Always enjoying moments like this*
"Stop the world I want to get off"
Yet the sun comes up, the sun comes down*
Life operates in its usual routine
A lot of places I have already been*
Some I want to forget, some to remember
Some "return to sender" *

But the stranger sharing my bed*
        Is the one I love
I wonder if he is aware of my fondness*
My attachement, mon amour, no less
The pleasure of love is in loving*
        We that are true lovers
Run into strange capers*
        Does he rmember the words
"Free is Love - Love is free*
        Love is you and me"?
Wake up honey - please*
Don't you want to listen to the ocean's rush
A melody of its own*
        Before it is gone?

        The birds playful musical sound
The smell of dew melting on the ground*
        The whisper of dancing blossoms
The humming of leaves on the trees*
        The cry of wild geese
Heading to their destination*
        Can't you feel the sensation
Flowing like a deep river*
        Through your veins?
Where have you been*
        Soul, heart and mind
Where you able to find*
        your termination?

        The urge arises in me
To run through a cornfield*
        Feeling free - so free
With you*
No one to tell us what to do
Kick off our shoes, let our hair fall down*
Wearing field flowers as a crown
Laughter, enchantement, ecstasy*
        It is you and me
Against the world*
The joy of sharing each other
Whatever we can give*
        Let us live

        Following the sun
And the moon*
        When the night falls down
And I will look at you*
        Seeing through
Your disguise*
        I am not very wise
But I can feel and I can give*
It is up to you if you want to receive
The kind of love I offer you*
        Stranger - I care - I really do!
