Why Why Why

By Brigitte Gastel written on September 29, 2025 in Belleville, Illinois
Did you ever wonder what makes you tick?*
Why life is often too hard to lick?
For some it's good - for some it's bad*
Sometimes they are happy - sometimes they are sad
Did you ever question justice in our world?*

Why some people are so filthy rich
That they are bathing in champagne*
Why others are begging for a handful of rice
And slowly are starving to death?*

Why some human beings want to be nice
And others only be mean*
Trying to destroy your live and dream
If you had any stored away deep down your inside*
Just in case life wants to be good to you
Then you could make your dream become true*
Eventually - before someone beats you to it

Did you ever think why some people are so stupid
And some are so smart*
Why some have a golden heart
And some one made out of stone? *

Why some have the need to be around people*
And some want to be left alone
Why some show understanding for your troubles*
And some only speak of themselves

Why some keep an open mind
And some seem to be blind*
Why some people like to help one another
And some don't even want to bother? *

Why some are healthy and live a long life*
Why some are suffering and have to strive
Why innocent children struggle to survive*
        Just for their lousy existence?

Why some old people have nothing to look forward to
They live in a forgotten world*
Their families don't want have anything to do
With taking care of their desperate needs? *

Why is our nation so much in depression*
They tell us we are in some kind of recession
What is the truth*
        And what is the lie
On whom can we really rely*
To give us an honest answer?

People are suffering from incurable diseases
Because supposedly there is not much money to spend*
Yet there are many rockets sent
To explore the space and the moon*
When will somebody speak up soon
To let the others realize*
That *our* world needs the exploration
The scientific experiments right here on earth*
To help, to give, to find a solution
To get rid ot our terrible pollution*
Which is clouding the air and our minds as well

The crime rates are rising daily
People don't know what to do anymore*
        To satisfy their inner emptiness
It became too obvious that great stress*
Has taking over in our lives
Many people are taking to booze*
Trying hard to sooth their conscience
Many are getting high on dope*
Will there be soon some hope?
For all of us - or is it the beginning of the end*
Will more disaster be from heaven sent?

Our young generation is much confused
Standing on highways and roads*
        With heavy burdens and loads
And searching, trying to understand*
Where their believes and innocence went
They are smoking grass and shooting up*
There is just about nothing what would make them stop
Some of them are happy though*
        And are making a go
Of their todays world*
        Flower children they were called
Now their names are drifters, hippies, bumms*
Considered to live in the slums
Stamped as outcasts in our society*
We have no right to intrude their privacy
Let them be whatever they choose to be*
Perhaps they are happier this way
And maybe are loving every day*
        From sunrise to sunset
Maybe they have more to offer*
        In the fact many do
They are trying to convince you*
That there is more to life
Then a big bank account and a fast driving car*
A fancy home, elegant clothes and a well stocked bar
There is such a thing called brotherhood and love*
These are important matters to put above
EVERYTHING.*
